Advanced Amidation & Quaternization Process

Cocamidopropyl Betaine (CAPB) is a high-performance amphoteric surfactant with excellent foaming, thickening, low irritation, and compatibility properties. Nanjing Qino Automatic Control Equipment Co., Ltd. has mature technology in the design and manufacturing of CAPB production plants, adopting advanced amidation and quaternization processes to ensure stable product quality.
Our CAPB production plant adopts a two-step process: first, amidation reaction to produce Cocamidopropyl Dimethylamine (PKO), then quaternization reaction to produce CAPB. The product quality is stable with high Active Matter Content, light Color, and excellent performance.
Core Process Flow

Amidation Reaction System

• Coconut oil fatty acid undergoes amidation reaction with N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine (DMAPA).
• Reaction temperature: 140-160°C.
• Vacuum dehydration to remove water generated by reaction.
• Reaction Time: 4-6 hours.
• Product: Cocamidopropyl Dimethylamine (PKO).

Quaternization Reaction System

• PKO undergoes quaternization reaction with Sodium Chloroacetate (SMCA).
• Reaction temperature: 70-90°C.
• Reaction Time: 6-8 hours.
• Reaction carried out in aqueous solution.
• Product: Cocamidopropyl Betaine (CAPB).

Post-Treatment System

• Adjust pH Value to 5.0-7.0.
• Adjust Active Matter Content (30-35%).
• Filtration to remove impurities.
• Degassing treatment.
• Product storage.
